The Amaravati Partnership Office (APO), Enterprise Singapore (ESG), Agri (AVA) and Singapore Business Federation (SBF) will be convening a Business Mission to the state of Andhra Pradesh from 1 – 5 October 2018. The mission will focus on seafood sourcing, and will explore the importation of shrimp and aquaculture products into Singapore and the region.
Seafood
Andhra Pradesh is the leading seafood producing state in India. It has a very established aquaculture sector particularly with shrimps as its main produce mainly meant for the export markets such as USA (35%), SEA (35%) and EU (30%).
However, there is still huge untapped potential in Andhra Pradesh, and given its ability to meet the strict import requirements of USA and EU markets, the state can be a potential market for Singapore businesses.
Cold Chain
There are significant market gaps for cold chain infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh, a key obstacle in achieving greater export volumes for the state’s aqua/agriculture products. The Government of Andhra Pradesh is trying to address this problem by setting up a Cold Chain Corporation (CCC) as well as provide aggressive incentives in order to attract investments into the sector.
There are opportunities for Singapore companies in cold chain logistics to be the first-movers to address the market gaps and capture market share given the strong government support.
Mission Highlights
-
Meetings and site visits to major prawn and aquaculture farms, processing units, ports (Krishnapatnam or Visakhapatnam) and cold chain facilities etc
-
Meetings with key government officials such as: Commissioner of Fisheries Department and other relevant authority agencies
-
Briefings to better understand the business environment, opportunities and policies to improve the industry
The draft programme may be found at Annex A. Programme components are still being finalised but will be based on the above mission highlights and on the eventual delegation composition.

Through a G-to-G collaboration between Singapore and Andhra Pradesh, a Singapore Consortium is developing a Start-up development in the greenfield capital city of Amaravati in Vijayawada. This site will be the central business district. A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between Singapore and Andhra Pradesh to boost collaboration in economic and institutional development. As such, an inter-agency APO has been set-up to support such collaborations, to work closely with Andhra Pradesh officials and support Singapore companies keen to work with Andhra Pradesh.
