Course Overview

This course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and understanding of culture and its different dimensions, from Southeast Asia (SEA) region and its countries, while helping limit and even avoid cultural biases.

 

With a better understanding on how cultural differences can influence negotiations, awareness, ability to anticipate, and react, on the negotiation strategy and flexibility will be enhanced. In addition, the module will guide participants to communicate and negotiate appropriately and effectively in a cross-cultural SEA environment.

Course Objectives

  • At the end of this module, participant will be able to:
    Define SEA culture and profile of a SEA countries’ culture and illustrate the major differences between context and multi-dimensional chronic cultures,
  • Evaluate how social style is interpreted in various SEA county cultures and identify the various decision-making mechanisms across these country cultures,
  •  Analyze the impact of SEA culture on relationship-building at the negotiation table and identify the key differences at the cross-cultural negotiation table,
  • Explain how SEA culture influences the negotiation framework and the negotiator’s behaviors, and demonstrate how to design and develop proper adaptation strategies during negotiation

2. Social Styles & Cross-Cultural Communication

  • Social styles observable practices in SEA and its specific countries
  • Advantages and disadvantages of each social styles
  • Cultural bias, miscues and how overcome them 

3. Cultural Context & Communication Styles and Decision Making in SEA

  • Low-context VS High-context communication
  • Time Culture: Monochronic VS Polychronic
  • Communication styles in SEA specific country culture

4. Cross Cultural Negotiation & Negotiation Styles &Decision Making in SEA

  • The multidisciplinary style of every negotiator  
  • Six Fundamental Patterns of Cultural Differences
