Overview

Malaysia has traditionally been a popular and natural choice for foreign business investors, who are looking for a well-located country to invest in the Asia Pacific region and ASEAN. The opportunities are limitless given Malaysia's escalating growth in its GDP and competitiveness in the global marketplace in recent years. As a central business hub in SEA, Malaysia attracts foreign investors from across the world. According to a recent study conducted by Standard Chartered, Malaysia was ranked the 2nd most favourable country for foreign investment in SEA amid the COVID pandemic. 

Despite the ambition to expand overseas, understanding the regulatory requirements in destination markets remain the top challenge for companies which are growing internationally.

Meet The Trainers


Munir Abdul Aziz
Managing Partner, Wong & Partners

Munir Abdul Aziz is the Managing Partner of Wong & Partners and a partner in Corporate, Commercial & Securities Practice Group of Wong & Partners. He has been in practice since 1998 in mergers and acquisition, corporate reorganisations, equity capital market works, venture capital and private equity, joint ventures and general commercial transactions. He has represented a number of multinational corporations in connection with takeovers, acquisitions, divestments of shares and assets, and joint ventures. He has also worked on corporate reorganisations and de-mergers involving leading public listed Malaysian companies. He has also been involved in domestic and international securities transactions including bond offerings and initial public offerings.

Munir is a highly regarded practitioner by leading legal directories such as Chambers Asia Pacific, Legal 500 Asia Pacific, IFLR1000 and Asialaw Profiles. He has also been recognised as Dealmaker Of The Year by the Asian Legal Business Malaysia Law Awards in 2017 and 2020.



Addy Herg
Partner, Wong & Partners

Addy Herg is a partner in the Corporate, Commercial & Securities Practice Group of Wong & Partners. His portfolio focuses on mergers & acquisitions, corporate restructurings and reorganisations, foreign direct investments and joint ventures. He has regularly represented multinationals and corporations in cross-border transactions, joint ventures, investments and other aspects of corporate and commercial laws.

Addy also regularly acts for insurers and reinsurers on corporate exercises, development of distribution channels and alliances, and regulatory compliance issues. He has a portfolio of corporate, compliance and regulatory advisory work for corporations across various industries such as financial services, manufacturing, logistics and supply chain and energy. He is one of the liaison persons of Wong & Partners' China Desk and has also regularly advised and represented Chinese corporations in outbound direct investments, joint ventures, projects, and other corporate advisory matters. Yvonne Beh
Partner, Wong & Partners

Yvonne Beh is a partner with over 15 years of experience, and leads the Indirect Tax sub-practice of the Tax, Trade and Wealth Management Practice Group of Wong & Partners. She specialises in indirect tax issues, in particular sales and services tax (SST) and goods and services tax (GST) (before its abolishment) issues. She also has extensive experience advising on border Malaysian tax issues, spanning across M&A, foreign direct investment and cross-border tax planning issues. She also regularly advises on income tax, withholding tax, real property gains tax, stamp duty and tax controversies.

Yvonne has been invited to participate in various consultations with the Ministry of Finance and Royal Customs of Malaysia, to provide feedback on the transition from GST to SST as well as SST-related changes and developments, including the introduction of service tax on imported digital services. Yvonne is often called upon by clients to advise on sophisticated and complex issues relating to the Malaysian tax and indirect taxes. This is particularly so for clients in the e-commerce, technology and digital economy industries, which have products and service offerings which are new, innovative and unconventional. Yvonne is recognised by leading legal directories such as Chambers Asia Pacific and International Tax Review.



Krystal Ng

Partner, Wong & Partners

Krystal Ng is a partner in the Tax, Trade & Weath Management Practice Group of Wong & Partners. Her primary focus is on tax and transfer pricing issues in the context of cross-border transactions as well as post-mergers and acquisition integrations for multinational clients in a wide range of industries. Her practice extends to the provision of strategic tax advice on a broad range of subjects such as income tax, double tax treaties, withholding tax, real property gains tax, assisting with tax incentives and exemptions as well as the planning and management of transfer pricing considerations to achieve an optimal and more tax effective model on a domestic, regional or global level.
