Making Sense Of Data Analytics To Gain Insight Into Your Biz

This is a 2-
day virtual learning programme. Upon successful registration and payment, registrants will be sent a Zoom link and access details of the online workshop.

Overview

"The world is one BIG data problem !" ---- Andrew McAfee (Co-director of MIT initiative on digital economy).

Digital transformation is gathering steam for many companies which are attempting to leverage on the latest technologies to grow and gain competitive edge. One key element of this digital transformation process concerns data management. Data has already been referred as the "new oil" for the digital economy.

The massive amount of data being harvested every single day is ever increasing and it is fast replacing oil as the world's most valuable resource. Tech titans - Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Google and Microsoft (collectively known as FAANGM) have exceeded US$3 trillions in combined market value. Their source of wealth comes directly from their ability to apply analytics on their massive data troves that allows them to capture enormous economic gains.

However, are all data created equally valuable ? What can businesses do to turn their everyday data into valuable resource like precious oil ?

Course Outline

Day 1 Programme :

On this Day 1 session, participants will gain a fundamental understanding of what Big Data is all about and how Big Data analytics can benefit their organisations. They will get to learn about the opportunities, challenges and possibilities brought about by gathering the collection, processing and analyses of these big data.

1. Big Data and Big Data Analytics
-
what exactly is big data ?
- how is big data different from "regular" data ?
- what is big data analytics ?
- how does big data analytics differ from traditional data analytics ?

2. Opportunities & Challenges
- why should organisations carry out big data analytics ? are there any benefits ?
- are all big data analytics created the same ? what kind of big data analytics is relevant to your organisation ?
- how does 5G, Internet of Things (IOT), Edge and Cloud computing empower big data analytics ?
- how do organisations get ready and start on big data analytics ? what are the things to consider before embarking on this journey ?
- discovering and taking stock of your organisation's data assets
- what are the challenges in adopting big data analytics ? how can an organisation overcome them ?

3. Case Studies
- group discussion on some real case studies of firms and industries that have adopted big data analytics

Day 2 Programme :

This Day 2 session endeavours to equip learners with the hands-on essentials of R programming, a powerful statistical and machine learning tool at the heart of data science and data analytics. Participants will learn how to use R to tease out hidden patterns in the data, generate insights and unlock its value. This workshop is designed to illustrate how to perform market segmentation using cluster analysis, an AI/machine learning algorithm. Additionally, participants will also acquire the skill sets to visualise and communicate insights to stakeholders using ggplot2, a powerful data visualisation library in R. This twin-combination of cluster analysis with data visualisation can facilitate effective storytelling on the derived insights for better decision making.

1. Introduction of Data Analytics
- Installation of R & R Studio; Registration of R Studio Cloud

2. Manipulate, clean and enrich raw data into more usable formats
-
Introduce Basic R manipulations and data basic structures (Part I & II)

3. Using R for data wrangling
-
clean up and prepare data for analysis
- filter data based on certain given conditions
- apply these discussed concepts to process and analyse a real-world data set (case study)

4. Using R for data visualisation
- use proper visualisation tools to analyse, derive and communicate insights
- create common visualisation plots using GGplot2
- apply these discussed concepts to analyse a real-world data set (case study)

5. Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML)
- how these new technologies affect data collection and analysis work
- discover hidden patterns in the enriched data set

6. Understanding k-means cluster analysis
- applying k-means clustering and data visualisation to perform market segmentation and sense making on a real-world data set (case study)
- connect the dots, interpret and derive actionable insights to facilitate better decision making

Note: Participants are expected to download and install FREE data analysis tools and R software into their computer during this workshop to facilitate learning

Learning Objectives

At the end of the workshop, participants would be able to :

- understand how big data would impact their business
- appreciate emerging technologies that affect big data analysis
- generate enriched data from real world raw data sets
- perform cluster analysis on the processed data set to find viable market segments
- visualise the results of cluster analysis and communicate the insights to stakeholders

Who Would Benefit

Business owners, Senior Directors / Managers or working level executives who are in strategic planning roles, who need to seek a good understanding of big data for digital transformation, or technical knowledge of data analytics using machine learning algorithms, or merely looking to transform their data presentation skills to make a corporate boardroom impact.
