The NTU-SBF Centre for African Studies has developed a breakfast series during which topics of relevance for Africa and those interested in Africa will be addressed. Experts in their fields will be invited to convey their points of view.

Feeding Africa is one of the High 5 Priorities of the African Development Bank. Increasing Africa’s food security and modernising its agriculture is part of Aspiration 1 of the AU’s Agenda 2063. The UN’s SDG’s include Zero Hunger and No Poverty. It is therefore clear that agriculture is playing an increasingly important role in Africa, as does the production of food. Currently Africa is a net importer of food to the tune of US$35 billion annually. There is therefore a strong imperative for Africa to increase its productivity. Asiatic Agricultural Industries was created in 1972 and is focused on crop protection. Their focus is on the manufacturing and distribution of products and solutions that help optimise crop yields and safeguard the well-being of livestock and the public. They subsequently moved into Africa, and their solutions are available in countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, to name but a few.

Mr Chan Chek Chee, founder and current chairman of Asiatic Agricultural Industries, has a passion for the business he founded 46 years ago together with his brothers. Mr Chan will talk about the growth of the business, the expansion into Africa, dealing successfully with the challenges of Africa and using modern technology to improve customer service.

Attendees can expect to gain insights into the following:

  • Growth and expansion of a family business into Africa

  • Dealing with the challenges of Africa, including increasing food production and distribution

  • Using technology to improve customer service

  • Network with like-minded individuals
