The NTU-SBF Centre for African Studies has developed a breakfast series during which topics of relevance for Africa and those interested in Africa will be addressed. Experts in their fields will be invited to convey their points of view.

Egypt has become a favourite investment destination for an increasing number of countries. Since President El-Sisi was elected as president of Egypt in 2014, the country has steadily progressed up the investment rankings. Countries such as China and Russia have identified it as a priority investment destination in Africa. Tourism numbers from Russia, amongst others, have picked up considerably. South Africa’s Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) has ranked Egypt as Number 1 on their list of attractive investment destinations in Africa in 2018. The Arab Monetary Fund has raised its forecast for the economic growth rate of Egypt for 2019 to 5.5%. According to the World Bank, economic growth in Egypt would increase to 5.8% by 2020. Egypt has also started to grow as a source of investment in Africa. Its most recent outreach was to Tanzania.

Egypt is therefore a country brimming with opportunities for businesses interested in tapping into the considerable returns available for those with a keen understanding of both the country and the continent. The Egyptian Ambassador to Singapore, His Excellency Mohamed Abulkheir, will be sharing his views on the business opportunities available in various sectors of the Egyptian economy. Attendees can expect to gain insights into the following:

  • Understanding the business opportunities in Egypt, including agriculture, manufacturing and tourism
  • Understanding investment incentives in Egypt for the foreign investor
  • Understanding the challenges and opportunities for the year ahead
  • Network with like-minded individuals
