Vietnam: Infrastructure Opportunities in Da Nang
29 July – 3 August 2018 • Da Nang
This Overseas Market Workshop is organised by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF).
Da Nang is the commercial and educational center of Central Vietnam, as well as being the largest city in the region. The city is spread over 1,283 sq km, with 911,890 people and a population density of 711 inhabitants per sq km. With the fourth largest seaport in the country, Da Nang is an important gateway city to the Central Highlands of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar. By 2020, Da Nang hopes to become one of the country’s major urban centers with a population of about 1.65 million. Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang in Vietnam are part of the Asean network of smart cities being proposed by Singapore.
Some of the Singapore investors in Da Nang include Sakae Holdings, Surbana Jurong, Fission, Central Real Estate, and YCH Group. Together they will help the city to adjust its master urban plan towards 2030, with a vision to 2050. The focus will be on developing the Da Nang Bay area as an ‘Urban Area in the Sea’, and ensuring the sustainable development of the city’s port system.
Numerous large-scale projects will be also implemented, including a tourism complex project at the corner of the Vo Van Kiet and Vo Nguyen Giap streets, the Ngu Hanh Son Cultural and Historical Park, an ecosystem complex at the Dong Xanh-Dong Nghe Lake in Da Nang’s Hoa Vang District, and a project to develop information infrastructure and build a center for training human resource at the Hi-tech Park. Many international financial organizations have committed to give capital support for the city’s projects. The city is seeking investors for huge projects such as Lien Chieu Port which is able to handle 100,000 DWT ships and container vessels up to 8,000 TEUs, and Danang railway station relocation.
Da Nang is now home to a total of 24 Singapore-invested projects, worth around 830 million US$ in total, making up over 27% of the total FDI capital in the city. These projects focus on areas such as trading, real estate, construction, education, healthcare, IT, and food & beverage.
Singapore companies may consider partnering local operators via a joint venture to take on projects. Join this trip if you are keen to understand how to do business in Da Nang. Seats are limited and based on first come first serve basis.
