An Introduction to Impact Investing and Practices


Overview

This half day workshop aims to demystify impact investing by clarifying fundamental concepts and distinguishing impact investments from other forms of investments on the spectrum of capital.

It will highlight global and local trends shaping sustainability and impact landscapes and examine how businesses can integrate responsible business practices and impact management into organisational systems and decision making. Contextualised for businesses operating in Singapore and the region, the programme will feature case studies of regional companies, and entail discussions around challenges and opportunities for businesses. Participants will gain an appreciation of the importance of being intentional about impact, and be provided with practical tools to devise their own strategies to achieve impact goals.

Trainer's Profile


Rajiv B. Lall, Professorial Research Fellow, Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics, SMU and Advisor, CIIP

Rajiv B. Lall has over close to four decades of experience in academia, international public policy, investment banking, private equity and corporate and retail banking. Having earned a B.A. Honours from Oxford University and a Ph.D. from Columbia University, he spent his professional career at the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, Morgan Stanley, Warburg Pincus and IDFC Bank. His expertise spans infrastructure finance, sustainable and impact investing, capital markets, international trade, and macroeconomic policy issues across Southeast Asia, China, Africa, the U.S. and India. He was Executive Chairman of IDFC Ltd., a public private partnership focused on infrastructure finance, was Founder CEO of IDFC Bank, now known as IDFC First Bank. He is currently Professorial Research Fellow at the Singapore Management University where he also serves on the Management Committee of the Singapore Green Finance Centre.

Sue-Ann Huang, 
Associate Director, CIIP

As Associate Director at CIIP, Sue-Ann works with regional and global partners to drive impact investing and practices in Asia and beyond. Prior to this role, Sue-Ann spent over a decade at Keppel Corporation, an MSCI triple-A ESG rated global conglomerate, and StarHub, Asia's most sustainable telecommunications company. She led Keppel’s sustainability reporting efforts and supported its strategy and policy development around the ESG issues. Sue-Ann helmed Keppel’s participation in the Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards by Global Compact Network Singapore, in which Keppel was conferred the Apex Winner in the Sustainable Business category. The Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards is the most prestigious award for companies in Singapore on corporate sustainability. Sue-Ann is certified in Sustainable Finance
