Overview

The trade and business links between Singapore and Vietnam have grown from strength to strength over the years. With a GDP forecast of 6.3% in 2017 by Asian Development Bank, Vietnam represents a hotbed for Singaporean Investment. Singapore is Vietnam’s third largest investor, coming in behind Japan and South Korea.  It is also Vietnam’s sixth largest trading partner.

 

The Singapore Business Federation has convened a business mission to Vietnam for Singapore companies to visit key investment zones and meet potential partners. Singapore companies will be able to gain in-depth exposure to doing business and explore business opportunities in Thua Thien Hue Province, a leading economic zone of Central Vietnam with emerging business opportunities for first-movers.

Site Visit to Chan May Economic Zone

 

Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone is situated in what has been considered the most favorable location, facing towards the East Sea of the East–West Economic Corridor and the Greater Mekong Sub-region. The Economic Zone is located midway between Danang City and Hue City which are known as two economically popular spots, and training centers providing highly qualified labor of Vietnam. These two cities also have two large international airports in the region. Transportation infrastructure is well established, which enables easy traveling from and to neighboring countries and other regions of Vietnam.

 

Priority Areas

The prioritized investment fields in the industrial park includes high-tech industry; clean industry such as software, new materials, precision engineering, manufacture and assembly of electrical and digital equipment, as well as manufacture and assembly of automobiles and motorcycles; production of medical equipment and pharmaceutical products; textile and garment industry; footwear industry; plastics industry; port services and maritime transport; and processing industry of agro-aqua-forestry exports.

As a general seaport on a key economic area of the Central, Chan May offers many advantages for the development of Industry, Commerce and Service. Chan May Port is the nearest and the most convenient outlet to the East Ocean and the East-West Economic Corridor connecting the Central of Vietnam with the Lower Central of Laos and with the North-East of Thailand and Myanmar.

 

RCL Investment Project in Chan May Port

In June 2015, RCL signed a berthing preferential agreement with Chan May Port, for RCL to invest US$3.5 million to upgrade the port facilities to accommodate larger ships. The first Royal Caribbean ship to this port after upgrading was the 137,276 GRT-Voyager of the Seas in August.

Next to Phu Bai airport, and the national route 1A, Hue – Da Nang highway, Phu Bai Industrial Zone has a convenient traffic location. One of the most prominent companies operating in Phu Bai Industrial Zone is Carlsberg Viet Nam which has put into operation its new canning line at Hue Brewery, with a total investment of almost 6.4 million EUR (US$6.93 million).
